Very pleased to announce that we'll be back in New Orleans in May for our 13th consecutive Jazzfest shows, on the SECOND WEEKEND, as is the custom. This year we'll be back at the House of Blues on Decatur Street. Friday's show is the more civilised time (doors at 8pm), while Saturday will be the traditional crazy late-night affair at which we start playing around 1am (once everyone has made it through the doors) and play until the small hours. Feel free to come to both shows!
Vocalist Lamar Williams Jr and horn players Mike Olmos & Jason Mingledorff bring their magic to this joyfully bouncy NMS groove. Out now on Eddie’s Color Red imprint, on digital only until the LP and CD release of the album “Shake It” on September 13th 2019.
Out today on Color Red - the first digital single from our forthcoming album featuring Lamar Williams Jr. If you happen to be in Portland ME, Fairfield CT or Brooklyn in next few days you can come see us play it live - see tour page for details.
We’ve now been together as a band for 20 years so we’re celebrating our anniversary throughout 2019. We kick off the festivities with the release of a 7″ single on May 3rd via Color Red to coincide with a two-night stand at the House of Blues New Orleans during Jazz Fest.
Vocalist Lamar Williams Jr., who has joined us for our 2019 run, is featured on the A-side “Shake It.” The flip side features a percussive collaboration with Thievery Corporation drummer Jeff Franca on “Permission To Land.” News of further 20th birthday plans is coming soon…

During a tour pitstop in June this year we returned to Welcome To 1979 studios in Nashville, TN to record a follow-up to our 2016 live-in-studio album. We performed 15 tunes in front of a small invited audience, recorded them straight to tape using tasty vintage gear, and selected 8 favourites to go onto a vinyl LP, adding two more for the CD and digital releases. (The extra two tracks are also on a download card that comes free with the LP). The first Nashville Session album was organ-only, so to give this one a different flavour Joe played acoustic upright piano, a Fender Rhodes, a Wurlitzer and a Prophet 5 synthesizer. With no edits and no overdubs, both albums capture the band’s heavily-improvised and energetic approach to live performance yet share the same warm, naturally crunchy, analogue tape sound of the classic soul-jazz and funk recordings of the late 60s and early 70s which first inspired us to start making music together nearly 20 years ago. If you head to our music page and click on each title you can listen to a 30-second preview.
We’ll be back in the Colorado mountains at the beginning of January for 4 shows in 3 ski towns: Aspen, Steamboat and Vail. Check the tour page for details and tickets.
In addition to our latest LP “The Nashville Session 2”, and last year’s “Renewable Energy”, you can pick up several other vinyl titles from our online store: Melvin Sparks “Live At Nectars” LP (mixed by Eddie Roberts and released on the band’s One Note Records imprint), plus Eddie Roberts & The Fire Eaters special RED label reissue “Burn” LP (Eddie’s super funky Spanish side project, out on Légère Recordings).
Available on CD are “An Introduction to NMS” - an excellent compilation of our first seven years’ studio output - “Live At La Cova”, “This Is What We Do”, “102%”, and Eddie Roberts’s “Roughneck”, as well as various t-shirts. Click the STORE button to take a look.

Teaser trailer for our live-in-studio follow up to 2016’s Nashville Session album - this one was recorded in June 2018 at the same studio - Welcome To 1979 - and features existing NMS originals whose arrangements have evolved on stage since they were originally recorded. Plus a banging cover of John Cameron’s KPM classic Afro Metropolis. The LP comes with a free download card which includes two additional tracks - Flimsy and Six Underground - that are on the CD version but didn’t fit onto the vinyl.
